ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Embark on an enriching journey through Northern India, exploring the vibrant cities of Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur, and the desert community of Setrawa. This program blends cultural heritage with meaningful community engagement, inviting students to immerse themselves in India’s diversity while connecting with local changemakers.
In Delhi, students will explore Sanjay Colony, a resilient neighborhood where innovation thrives. We will visit educational projects in Jodhpur focused on empowering women and girls. In Setrawa, we’ll spend a night in the desert, learning about local tribal traditions. In Jaipur, we’ll engage with a not-for-profit organization that provides employment opportunities for women from low-income households, training them as rickshaw drivers. This blend of cultural exploration and social impact allows students to form meaningful connections and support local empowerment efforts.
Schedule Details
Day 1: Delhi (Arrival)
The first day of the program begins with an afternoon arrival at Delhi International Airport, where participants will meet the Trip Leaders and transfer to the hotel. After check-in and refreshments, there will be an initial Orientation session to establish a Community Agreement, setting a foundation of respect and collaboration for the journey. The day concludes with a buffet dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel in Delhi.
Day 2: Delhi
The second day begins with a comprehensive sightseeing tour of Delhi, led by a knowledgeable and friendly female guide. Participants will visit iconic sites, including the Lotus Temple, Iskcon Temple, India Gate, Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, and Agrasen ki Baoli, gaining unique insights into Delhi's heritage from a women’s perspective. In the afternoon, the group will explore Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, a prominent Sikh temple known for its large community kitchen that feeds over 10,000 people daily. The day concludes with dinner at a traditional Indian restaurant and an overnight stay at the hotel in Delhi.
Day 3: Delhi
In the morning, we’ll tour Sanjay Colony with our local guide, who will lead us through the vibrant streets and colorful alleys of this community where resilience and creativity thrive. From lively markets filled with diverse goods to workshops alive with craftsmanship, we’ll experience the entrepreneurial spirit that defines this area. We’ll also visit a women’s cooperative. In the afternoon, we’ll learn about educational initiatives with our partner NGO, Reality Gives, which empowers youth through education and sports programs, and participate in volunteer work at the Sanjay Colony community center. Dinner will be at a traditional Indian restaurant, followed by an evening overnight train to Jodhpur.
Day 4: Jodhpur
Upon morning arrival in Jodhpur, we’ll check in and refresh at our guesthouse. We’ll then receive an introduction to our partner NGO, Sambhali Trust, and learn about their impactful projects. This will be followed by an orientation to meet our NGO partners and learn more about our service project. Later, we’ll spend time with the girls from the boarding home for an engaging activity. Dinner will be served at our family guesthouse, where we’ll stay overnight in Jodhpur.
Day 5: Jodhpur
Today, we’ll work on our service project at the Empowerment and Primary Education Centers. Later, we’ll tour Jodhpur, exploring the Blue City, visiting the famous Clock Tower market, and stopping by the Sambhali Boutique. We’ll also spend time engaging in activities with the girls from the boarding home. Our curriculum session will cover important topics, including decolonization, anti-oppression, privilege, and allyship. Dinner will be served at our family guesthouse, where we’ll stay overnight.
Day 6: Jodhpur
In the morning, we’ll continue our service project at the Empowerment and Primary Education Centers. We’ll also explore Jodhpur’s iconic fort and the historic Old Blue City. Later, we’ll engage in activities with the girls from the boarding home. Our curriculum session will focus on decolonization, anti-oppression, privilege, and allyship. Dinner will be at our family guesthouse, where we’ll stay overnight.
Day 7: Setrawa
We’ll depart by bus to Setrawa, a village in the Thar Desert region, where we’ll spend the night at one of Sambhali’s project sites. In the evening, we’ll enjoy a traditional dinner prepared by a group of tribal women and stay in rustic Rajasthani cottages, or “desert cabins,” located at Govind’s family home. We’ll also have a curriculum activity before settling in for the night at the family home.
Day 8: Setrawa / Thar Dessert
Awaken to the sounds of wild peacocks before visiting the sand dunes and exploring Sambhali's desert project, dedicated to supporting women and girls in remote areas. Later, we’ll return to Jodhpur for a final dinner at our guesthouse. We’ll close the day with reflection time before our overnight stay in the local guesthouse.
Day 9: Jaipur
Departing Jodhpur by morning train, we’ll reach Jaipur by afternoon and settle into our hotel. We’ll then enjoy an orientation walk through Jaipur, famously called the Pink City for its historic buildings painted in pink terracotta hues. Later, we’ll head to Nahargarh Fort for breathtaking sunset views over the city. After a reflective session, we’ll spend the night in our local guesthouse in Jaipur.
Day 10: Jaipur
Today’s tour of Jaipur takes us through the city in Pink City Rickshaws, driven by women from low-income households. Our morning begins at the majestic Amber Fort, offering panoramic views of the area. In the afternoon, we’ll visit iconic landmarks such as Hawa Mahal, originally designed so the royal women could view street festivals unseen, followed by City Palace and the UNESCO-listed Jantar Mantar Observatory. In the evening, we’ll meet with a local woman to discuss Indian marriage traditions, including arranged marriages. Overnight stay in our local guesthouse in Jaipur.
Day 11: Agra

Today, we’ll visit one of the world’s most iconic landmarks: the Taj Mahal. Seeing its glimmering white marble and intricate carvings up close is an unforgettable experience that brings its legendary beauty to life. Later, we’ll stop at Sheroes Hangout, a café run by female acid attack survivors, where we’ll learn about their inspiring journey of resilience and empowerment as they regain confidence and independence. Afterward, we’ll engage in a curriculum activity before returning to our family guesthouse in Agra for the night.
Day 13: Delhi (Departure)
Upon our mid-morning arrival in New Delhi, we’ll drop off our luggage at the guesthouse and enjoy some refreshing drinks to energize us for the day ahead. After a delicious lunch, we’ll dive into some afternoon shopping at the vibrant Janpath Market in Connaught Place, where you can find everything from handicrafts to trendy apparel.
In the evening, we’ll engage in a curriculum activity designed to reflect on our experiences throughout the trip. As the day winds down, we’ll gather for a farewell dinner in Delhi, celebrating the memories we've created together. Our closing ceremony will encapsulate our journey, and later, we’ll head to the airport for our late departure from Delhi International Airport, taking with us unforgettable experiences and stories to share.
