ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Join us for a transformative experience where you’ll work alongside local women on projects that empower them and foster connections between women and girls. This extended journey lets you dive deeper into Sri Lanka’s culture, engaging in sustainable community initiatives that support women entrepreneurs and leaders. As you explore the Emerald Island, you’ll encounter its incredible natural beauty, shaped by Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, European traders, colonial powers, ancient kingdoms, and cricket. From connecting with local women surfers in Arugam Bay to participating in hands-on workshops, this journey offers a rich, diverse experience that celebrates Sri Lanka’s welcoming spirit and the power of community.
This itinerary offers a deeper, transformative experience in Sri Lanka, combining adventure, nature, and cultural immersion. In addition to classic activities like cycling through national parks, climbing Sigiriya rock, and enjoying a scenic hike in or near the Knuckles Mountain Range (with options for more accessible treks), you’ll relax on the beautiful southwest beaches and connect with the local women’s surf club in Arugam Bay. Here, you’ll engage in surf sessions, workshops, community activities and share empowering experiences with Sri Lankan women surfers.
The journey also includes active participation in sustainable projects that support women entrepreneurs and leaders in local communities. From hands-on workshops to visits to women-led businesses, you’ll contribute to initiatives that foster positive social change. This trip allows you to explore Sri Lanka’s incredible landscapes, while building meaningful connections with inspiring women and supporting projects that promote empowerment and sustainability.

Schedule Details
Day 1: Negombo
Welcome to Sri Lanka. The first day starts with an afternoon arrival at the International Airport, where participants will meet our Trip Leaders and transfer to the hotel in Negombo. After check-in and refreshments, we’ll have our first Orientation session about the program. Then we’ll explore some local sights such as the Dutch fort and churches, and witness the bustling activity of fishermen bringing in their catch of the day. Overnight stay at the hotel in Negombo.
Day 2: Sigiriya / Kandy
This morning we are up early to climb the Sigi riya Rock fortress before the heat of the mid-day sun hits. This UNESCO world heritage site is an astonishing feat of engineering and construction.
In the afternoon we drive to Kandy. Upon arrival and check in we will visit the Dalada Maligawa (aka Temple of the Tooth), Sri Lanka's most important Buddhist site, and mingle with the white-clad pilgrims who come here to worship. followed by a stroll besides the 200 year old manmade Kandy Lake.
Day 3: Kandy
This morning we explore Kandy- home to a picturesque lake, old shops, a bustling market and some great restaurants. It was once the capital under the last Sri Lankan king, and the area managed to resist European control for hundreds of years, long after the coastal areas surrendered.
In the evening, we will go to watch Kandyan dance- a popular dance form native to Kandy often characterized by its vibrant costumes, elaborate headgear, rhythmic drumming, and intricate footwork.
Day 4: Nuwara Eliya / Ella
Today we head to Nuwara Eliya, known as 'Little England,' for a guided tour of a tea plantation, where students can sample and buy fresh tea. Next, we'll take the scenic train from Nuwara Eliya to Ella, passing through Sri Lanka's beautiful Hill Country.
Upon arrival in Ella, we have the option to hike the iconic Ella Rock, a 2-3 hour climb, and end with a refreshing swim in Ravana Waterfalls.
Day 5 to 8: Discovering Arugam Bay
During these days, we will immerse ourselves in the community of Arugam Bay. We’ll have the opportunity to visit the first all-female surf club in Sri Lanka, a space dedicated to promoting empowerment, ocean safety, and environmental awareness.
We will take surf lessons on the stunning beaches of Arugam Bay, guided by local instructors. Additionally, we’ll visit the Rice & Carry cooperative, an initiative that works to ensure fair incomes for local women and their families. This cooperative also focuses on raising awareness about reusing resources and promoting creative recycling.
We’ll have the opportunity to explore the religious diversity of the area, learning about the different spiritual practices that coexist in Arugam Bay and the surrounding communities. A special experience will be the women’s circle, where we’ll join local women to share stories, support each other, and strengthen bonds within the community. We’ll also take part in a beach clean-up activity, helping to preserve the beautiful coastline and contribute to the environmental efforts in the region.
Day 9: Udawalawe National Park / Galle
Today we wake up early to visit the Udawalawe National Park- one of the island's premier wildlife destinations famous for its population of Asian elephants as well as other wildlife such as sambar deer, wild boar, water buffalo, and various species of birds, including eagles, owls, and water birds.
In the afternoon we head to the coastal region of Sri Lanka “Galle”. Upon reaching Galle, we check in to the hotel and later in the afternoon we will visit Galle fort- a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dutch Reformed Church, and finally catch a glimpse of the Lighthouse.
Day 10: Galle
This morning we will visit the Japanese Peace Pagoda and Galle National museum to delve into Galle's rich history and cultural heritage. The second half of the day would be free to relax on the beach.
Day 11: Colombo
Today we drive to Colombo- the vibrant capital city of Sri Lanka, another option is to take an early morning train ride through a scenic route that takes you along Sri Lanka's coastline. The journey offers breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, palm trees, golden sandy beaches, and fishing villages, an unforgettable experience that immerses you in Sri Lanka's coastal charm.
On arrival, and check in, we will visit Gangaramaya Temple- Iconic Buddhist temple, known for its stunning architecture, sacred relics, moreover the unique collection of artifacts and statues within the temple complex which is not to be missed. Later we visit Independence Square- a historic landmark, which commemorates Sri Lanka's independence from British colonial rule.
