This tour offers an authentic and nuanced view of life in this bustling community, showcasing the resilience and creativity of its residents. You’ll also learn about the impactful NGO programs that directly benefit from your visit, empowering local women and families. After exploring Dharavi, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure. You can choose to visit iconic landmarks such as the magnificent Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the serene Haji Ali Mosque, or take in panoramic views from Malabar Hill. After settling into our hotel, we’ll spend the afternoon exploring Fort Kochi, renowned for its stunning blend of Dutch, Portuguese, and British colonial architecture. As we wander through the area, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with local fishermen at the iconic Chinese fishing nets, and even try your hand at pulling the nets yourself! This immersive experience allows us to connect with the rich cultural heritage of Kochi while supporting the local community.

We’ll also tour the Dutch Palace, a beautiful structure gifted to the Cochin Royal Family by the Dutch, where you’ll learn about its fascinating history. In the afternoon, we’ll dive into the world of Kathakali, a classical Indian dance that was traditionally an all-male art form until 1975, when the first all-women group was formed. Despite initial skepticism, these women have performed across India and won the President of India's Medal of Honor in 2017. During our intimate session, one of the pioneering artists will share her journey of breaking gender barriers and demonstrate Kathakali’s history, elements, and traditions, including a performance without makeup or costumes.
